5 Revealing Ways to Recognize & Work with The Storms in Your Life

This writing is from the Sacred Rebel Oracle Card Deck reading and coaching session I did this past Sunday, 4-30-2023.

I can’t even begin to tell you how well these cards work in letting us know the direction to go throughout our lives based on what our Higher Self/Intuition tells us.

I have been using them for a while now and recognize, every day, just how powerful, magical, and helpful they are on my journey. Sharing them with you and guiding you through the information that comes through in a mini-coaching session is exciting for me. I know firsthand how my intuition has begun to work better since using this deck.

What About Nature?

Nature is a fantastic teacher. It has always been that way. We can learn a lot about life and ourselves just by being in it. The challenges we face are from our disconnection from nature. We have become disconnected from ourselves and the earth. When we don’t connect with nature every day, we can lose a part of ourselves and our lives.

As a result, we experience anxiety, depression, confusion, feeling lost with no direction, always wanting more, and never finding the truth of who we are. Spending at least 10 minutes in nature, even just standing barefoot on the earth, will reset the energy in our bodies and help us feel calmer and satiated within ourselves. When we feel satiated, we feel more at peace. We are not looking for anything to fill that space. Nature can do that for us.

Inner and Outer Storms

Things inside us are activating to clear out the stuck energy in your body and your life. If you don’t believe that, then keep reading.

This card I pulled on Sunday was named The Perfection of Your Life. Within the discovery of that perfection, there are opportunities where we must go through what some know as Dark Nights of the Soul. These dark nights are not there to hurt us. They are there to show us that if we slow down, trust the process, be gentle with ourselves, and move through whatever situation or energy is occurring. This too shall pass.

These dark nights show up as inner storms to clear out what no longer serves us. When we can learn to sit with them instead of fight them, this is where the magic happens.

In nature, storms come to clear and clean things out. Have you ever experienced how fresh the air is and how much calmer things are after a violent storm? It’s like an expanded version of a respite. It feels so peaceful.

My Experiences

I have been working on myself for over 30 years, the past 8 being a dive into the depths of my soul. Since April of 2021, I have experienced the deepest dives into things that scared the crap out of me. The unknown, being alone and unloved, being a bother to others, never having enough, never being enough, never achieving enough.

Well, enough is enough.

These things are a detriment to our souls, as I have discovered. In the past year and a half, walking through PTSD from the military, which involved sexual trauma/harassment, general harassment, the trauma I dealt with as a child and teenager, and those that my children and I went through in my adult life regarding alienation. I used the latter as a catalyst to move me forward into healing my nervous system from the trauma and finding the inner peace I had always been searching for.

Many storms… a lot of darkness… much pain AND I learned. I worked on my faith and trusted myself and God/Universe. I always felt I would somehow make it out of the dark hole I had dug for myself in the ground with the water that was just high enough to lap at my lips. I never went fully under and drowned and never quite knew why.

It doesn’t matter. I am here. I am now a better version of myself, and feel much stronger and more at peace than I ever have.

And… now I get to share with others that it doesn’t take a miracle (although at some points it feels that way) to heal our nervous system and feel that peace.

Being Highly Sensitive/Being an Empath

Trauma can be complicated and difficult to understand for a highly sensitive person or empath. We already have a sensitive nervous system, trauma can make it worse. Being highly sensitive, come to find out, was a Superpower, not a detriment. We are here with highly sensitive nervous systems so we can feel the pain of others and help them heal.

The challenge is the trauma we have experienced that makes it seem that much more painful. Not only have we been traumatized, but to add to that, being able to feel life at such a deep level is challenging to many people, especially the generations that had been taught not to feel.

So what do we do with this?

Here are five things I do to weather the storms in my life.

The storms coming up in our lives can produce a lot of anxiety. It can come from within, someone or something outside of us that is causing us to feel anxious. These storms are happening for you, not to you. You have the power to walk through them.

  1. Breathwork – Sit with the storm. Take a deep breath in and down to your stomach, hold it, and then release it. Breathe into the count of 4, hold to the count of 4, and release to the count of 8. This will help you to relax your central nervous system.
  2. Creativity – Dance, paint, write, sing or however you love to be creative. Creativity opens the space to relax and heal. While you are busy creating, you are giving yourself something to focus on.
  3. Release – Rage, weep, cry, yell (Rage Against the Machine works well for this), have a temper tantrum and do it until you are exhausted. Then… do it some more. This kind of release is wonderful for your nervous system. It allows your body to let go of the energies stuck in there. Energies of anger, shame, fear, and sadness stuck in the nervous system keep us stuck in our lives. It is all on a subconscious level.
  4. Exercise – This is another way to release the stuck energies in your physiology. Do something that wears you out, similar to the Release. Once you feel exhausted, do a bit more.
  5. Sit – Just sit down and do nothing. That’s right, you heard me. Once you are finished doing a release, this part is the perfect thing to do. Be with you… in the moment and take care of yourself, lovingly and gently. It’s not easy sometimes, yet it is a simple act of kindness to yourself.

After you do some or all of these, you may feel exhausted and ready for a nap. Take the nap. Your body is a miracle healing machine and uses sleep to heal itself. Listen to your body… always listen to your body, for it knows what you need and how to heal you. Pain, hunger, exhaustion, etc., are how your body speaks to you in messages.

You will feel like a huge weight has lifted from your shoulders, and when you are finished some form of peace will ensue.

Healing is best done in partnership…

I understand what it’s like to be a highly sensitive, empathic person who has experienced trauma and found inner peace.

Throughout my healing process, I came to realize that the trauma I experienced and the Complex PTSD that ensued was actually locked in my nervous system. With Cognitive Therapy done for most of my life, I was able to understand what was going on. Yet my body would react to situations that occurred and I couldn’t figure out why. I logically knew that I was safe, but I would have an immediate anxiety attack and my body would start to go into a stress response. People would tell me to “relax” (which did not help or work) and I constantly felt I had no control over myself. As a result, that feeling of being out of control created a Protective Mechanism for me to control things through codependency. It became a viscous cycle.

I also tried to meditate, breathe, relax, connect to a Higher Power; all of the things I was searching for throughout my life and was just not able to do. I could not figure out why… until I did. I realized that my knowledge of what was going on, what to do, how to do it, etc., was great. The challenge… getting my nervous system to regulate so I could feel peace. Only then would I be able to heal the Protective Mechanisms I created… and yes, there were plenty of them.

That’s when I decided to focus mostly on bodywork with some cognitive work mixed in. As a result, I was able to release the stuck energies in my nervous system so I could finally breathe, meditate and relax. From there, I began to feel the peace inside me.

Most of us that have been traumatized with highly sensitive nervous systems will have trouble attaining and feeling peace. Until you recognize what is happening and work to release the traumatic energies from your nervous system where they are literally stuck, you will feel stuck in your life.

If you think you are empathic or highly sensitive, I can assist you in discovering what is going on, empowering yourself and transforming your life to attain and keep your peace. Just like I am doing with mine. I work with healers as well.

I invite you to recognize yourself in me and see that you too can shift and find your Freedom.
